Northparkes seeks to reduce health risks in the workplace through
the minimisation of exposure to health hazards, the provision of
appropriate medical support and the encouragement of healthy
lifestyles.
Northparkes systems ensure that the
company records and analyses health and safety hazards, incidents
and near misses to ensure that causes and contributing factors are
identified and appropriate action is taken to mitigate or reduce
the risk.
Northparkes has well embedded monitoring, medical surveillance and
wellness programs in place to support a working environment that
protects the workforce and creates health awareness. The monitoring
assists the mine to assess occupational health risks and review
controls with a focus on dusts, noise, diesel particulates and
drinking water quality.
Fitness for work is of critical importance with major threats
including medical issues, alcohol, other drugs, fatigue and stress.
Northparkes seeks to raise awareness of all of these issues and to
adopt processes that will help to mitigate risk. Programs include
random drug and alcohol testing which applies to all employees and
visitors; monitoring and self-reporting of fatigue and stress.
Northparkes also encourages its employees to be fit and healthy and
provides a number of programs to promote wellbeing.
