Northparkes systems ensure that the company records and analyses health and safety hazards, incidents and near misses to ensure that causes and contributing factors are identified and appropriate action is taken to mitigate or reduce the risk.

Northparkes has well embedded monitoring, medical surveillance and wellness programs in place to support a working environment that protects the workforce and creates health awareness. The monitoring assists the mine to assess occupational health risks and review controls with a focus on dusts, noise, diesel particulates and drinking water quality.

Fitness for work is of critical importance with major threats including medical issues, alcohol, other drugs, fatigue and stress. Northparkes seeks to raise awareness of all of these issues and to adopt processes that will help to mitigate risk. Programs include random drug and alcohol testing which applies to all employees and visitors; monitoring and self-reporting of fatigue and stress. Northparkes also encourages its employees to be fit and healthy and provides a number of programs to promote wellbeing.
