Safety
The mission of the Safety Team at
Northparkes is to "Make a difference through strong safety
leadership and teamwork by proactively resolving safety issues".
This focus has helped Northparkes to achieve its objectives of
reducing its number of Medical Treatment Cases and Lost Time
Injuries (which is a combination of Restricted Work Duty Injuries
and Lost Day Injuries)

While
comprehensive standards, guidelines, systems and procedures provide
the structure for a safe work environment, our goal of zero
injuries cannot be achieved without the support and commitment of
every employee and contractor on site. We realise that safe work
practices don't stop when you leave work and we encourage employees
to apply these standards at home and in the local community.
Northparkes places emphasis on hazard identification, risk
assessment and risk management. Safety performance is assessed
through operational, corporate and external auditing and reporting
processes.
Safety Management System
Northparkes Mines Safety Management System is the point of
reference for all safety initiatives on site and it contains safety
policies, standards and procedures that detail how tasks need to be
performed. This System complies with legislative requirements and
meets the safety expectations of Rio Tinto and Northparkes
Mines.
Improved safety oversight in Projects and Operations has greatly
increased safety interactions, and improvements to injury
management all contributed to this success.
